Three things about QR codes
The quiet zone is mandatory, not decorative
Every QR code must have a margin of empty space around it — the “quiet zone” is part of the specification, not optional padding. When you download the code, this margin is included. Crop it away and the scanner may fail silently. The version you see in preview includes it.
Shortening a URL raises scan reliability
A longer URL means a denser QR code, which is harder to scan in dim light or from awkward angles. If you're printing a code or posting it online, a shortened URL (like bit.ly or lex.app) makes the code smaller and more resilient. The target is the same; the QR code is just simpler.
QR codes are not a security boundary
Anyone with the URL in the code can decode it — there is no secret key, no authentication built in. Do not encode passwords, API keys, or sensitive credentials in a QR code. If the URL itself must be secret, keep the code itself private (print it only for trusted recipients, or guard the web page it's on).
